Offsite pet adoptions is the key to getting shelter pets out
there directly to the public
Puppy mills are factory-like breeding operations
where dogs suffer most or all of their lives in
overcrowded cages supplying puppies for profit.
Irresponsible breeding coupled with minimal
veterinary care and neglect often lead to a host of
health problems and genetic disorders in their
offspring.
Thousands of puppy mills exist in the United States,
as well as overseas, and the dogs they produce are
sold via
the Internet, newspaper ads and to brokers and
pet stores across the country. The overwhelming
majority of pet stores (just about all) obtain their
puppies from puppy mills or puppy mill brokers; this
is the only way for them to have a constant supply
of "stock."

Don't buy while shelter
pets die.
But while puppy mills thrive,
animals are killed by the thousands in shelters.
Why? "Generally, pet stores
succeed when a shelter is not meeting market demand or
competing effectively, and because animal lovers do not want
to go into a shelter that kills the vast majority
of the animals"
Nathan Winograd.
The key to getting people to adopt shelter pets, is offsite
adoptions.
"Our ambition is to
fill the bus up with cats
and dogs and set up adoption events at locations and public
events throughout the city. By taking animals to
where people work, live and play, we want to make it easy
for them to adopt a shelter animal rather than buy one from
a breeder, pet store, or elsewhere."
says Amanda St. John, Founder of MuttShack Animal Rescue.

HERE'S THE STORY!
"Now we'll get our Magic
Bus! Now we'll get our Magic
Bus"
There is this amazing red
double decker we want to buy
and transform into a Magic
Pet Adoptions Bus. Rescues
and shelters in Los Angeles
have lots of adoptable
shelter pets to bring to all
the fun Los Angeles events;
fairs, mall promotions, and
festivals.
The bus has a crazy up and
downstairs space which we
can jam pack with adorable
shelter pets. Imagine as
many as fifty animals a day
finding their new homes and
cheating their shelter
deaths.
Please join in to save cats
and dogs.
Our sponsors can get a
ticket to ride and come and
enjoy the adoption
festivals! Also needed,
mechanics, woodworkers,
artists, pet fosters, and
volunteers galore!
WOOF! "You know, I think
this bus, is going to take
me, to where I want to go!"
Every day we are right on
cue
(Too much, the Magic
Bus)
To get on the bus that takes
us to you
(Too much, the
Magic Bus)
We're good dogs we can sit
and smile
(Too much, the
Magic Bus)
Our new house may be only
another mile
(Too much, the
Magic Bus)
Thank you MuttShack for
getting us there (Too much,
the Magic Bus)
Cause soon we'll have cause
to cheer
(Too much, the
MuttShack Bus)
We don't want to cause no
fuss
(Too much, the
MuttShack Bus)
As we find homes with our
Magic Bus
(Too much, the
MuttShack Bus)
Nooooooo! (fuss)
I don’t care how much we
play
You know, I think this bus,
its going to take us where
we want to go
Go on home
To our new home
To our new home
We got to get on that bus
If we want to get to our new
home
We got to get on that bus
You gotta play
You got to play with us all

The
Katrina Promise
When Katrina hit, an incredible group of dedicated volunteers went
to East New Orleans. Despite overwhelming devastation and
hardship they rescued over 3,000 pets. MuttShack operated
a MASH unit, pet shelter and an aggressive dog clinic run by Jim
Crosby, canine aggression specialist.
MuttShack then stayed and lobbied in support of Senator Fontenot's Pets
Act, winning the right for people to evacuate with their pets.
But the crisis is not over
The Act does not provide for all the supplies, equipment and
training that is necessary pre-storm.
Even though people will be evacuated with their pets, supplies and
trained volunteers are still desperately needed. Watch the
video and see how you can play a part.
