One Hundred Dogs and a CatAbout MuttShack

MuttShack Foundation is a non-profit animal rescue organization dedicated to dog rescue, cat rescue  rehabilitation and dog care.

A Good Samaritan, a "MuttShacker" rescues a dog from the street or a kill (or no kill shelter), and keeps him safe for a week or two in their home.  They become the dog's promoter and sponsor.

MuttShacks keep animals out of shelters and in safe foster homes, where they can be socialized, nurtured back to health and then be adopted to new loving families.  Fifty-six percent of dogs and seventy one percent of cats that enter shelters are euthanized. About 9.6 million animals are euthanized every year.

What Makes MuttShacks Different?

We don't spend our money on buildings, staff and infrastructures. We don't maintain a work force to feed and walk animals.  Instead our shelters are created in homes.  Many people have already experienced a dog rescue.  It is no different, except this time they have the support of experts, and a network of support to promote the re-homing of their rescued pet.

Muttshack actively supports creations of dog parks, pet friendly venues, pet-friendly hotels and apartments and a society that loves to share their lives with animals.

MuttShack officially launched April 3, 2005 with a triumvirate to support the cause!

Thousands of animals can be saved if they can be kept out of overcrowded shelters for just a few days while they're found new homes.

"Create  MuttShack foster homes for abandoned and abused animals.
Rescue, rehabilitate, and nurture them to health and find them new quality forever homes.  Stop killings of healthy animals in overcrowded shelters by re-homing, spaying and neutering.  Fifty-six percent of dogs and seventy one percent of cats that enter shelters are euthanized. About 9.6 million animals are euthanized every year."
  Amanda St. John, Founder.
